The sister brand to WaterRower, NOHRD (pronounced nord) is the brainchild of Dominik Kuprecht, Managing Director of WaterRower Germany.
Deriving its name from the town of Nordhorn in which WaterRower Germany is based, Herr Kuprecht created the brand to meet growing demand from WaterRower customers for fitness equipment with the same space-saving functional design as their much-loved rowing machines.
DESIGNING FITNESS
NOHRD designs follow the same blueprint set-out by WaterRower inventor John Duke. The aim of all NOHRD products is to offer beautiful, well-made equipment that does not compromise on either form or functionality. The first product released in the NOHRD range was the WallBars, which first came to market in the late 2000s. An immediate success, the WallBars were quickly followed by the NOHRD SwingBells and the WaterGrinder.
The success of the first NOHRD product encouraged our team that there is a market of fitness enthusiast that do not want to compromise on performance or aesthetics when choosing their exercise equipment. The ever-growing range of NOHrD products has developed methodically to meet our customers requests and now include everything from the TriaTrainer, a folding workout bench, the Sprintbok, our award-winning curved treadmill.
THE NOHRD APPROACH
While other fitness equipment manufacturers base their designs on conventional shapes and styles to suit the commercial gym market, at NOHRD we do things differently. The design process working backwards from defining the ideal user experience and then creating a product to match. An example of this is our Swing Weights.
The NOHRD design team identified that in several kettlebell exercises the weight hits the forearms and legs, which can cause discomfort and bruising. In answer to this, we created the Swing Weights, a solid wood ergonomic handle attached to a hand-stitched leather case. For weight, each case contains tiny iron pellets that are much softer on impact than a regular kettlebell.
FORM MEETS FUNCTION
Our priority is always to deliver a product that gives the user a best-in-class workout experience. Once happy with the functionality, we then turn our attention to aesthetics. The litmus test is always “do I want this in my home?”
All products in NOHRD range are manufactured to an exacting standard in Germany. As with the WaterRower, all timber used is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests. Only guaranteed young and smooth hardwood will be processed. The premium quality wooden elements are oiled for protection against dirt and stains. Wood is a natural raw material which can deviate in colour and consistency, rendering all NOHRD products one-of-a-kind!
